Protect your PC

April 28, 2008

Normally, when a PC’s connected to the internet, it would likely catch viruses, or spywares although not all are harmful to the computer’s operating system. This happens even when you have an anti-virus installed in your pc. Anti-viruses today are just not enough to counter newly coded viruses as they are more harmful and more capable of penetrating a computer’s system than those viruses that were coded five or two years ago.

So I’ve listed here a couple of tips in order for you to help your PCs get rid of those harmful viruses, adwares and spywares. Now, I’m not saying that I am an expert to this but these are just suggestions based on my own experience with my pc.

First is to make sure that you have a good anti-virus installed in your computer. It may not be capable of stopping all viruses from attacking your system but it is always best to have one. Now, anti-virus like McAfee requires you to buy its license so for those of you who are out of budget or if you just don’t like spending for anti-virus software, you may want to consider a couple of ‘good enough’ anti-virus freewares. You may either use AVG or Avast Home Edition.

Both are free and they also provide regular updates so that should at least do you some good. Aside from anti-virus, it would also be good if you could install anti-spyware. Of course, like AVG and Avast, there are also some free anti-spyware available on the net for download. I will not specify which anti-spyware you should use instead I will ask you to read a couple of reviews on different free anti-spyware software. You may find them in sites like www.download.com. And the last but not the least, clean your drives from time to time. Delete all unnecessary file to free some of your disk space and that should improve the perfromance of your pc.

Online Jobs: Scammers’ Portal

April 27, 2008

I’ve known many people who are running personal blogs and are earning from them. Some are displaying Google ads on their pages while others are writing product reviews and the likes. Personally, I think that one can make a decent income out of these stuffs that you can always do out of your spare time. Payperpost, smorty and ReviewMe are some of the websites that pay you to post articles on your blog.

These sites are most likely to pay you as a writer than those people and small companies who posts writing job ads in sites like Craigslist.com. Scammers are everywhere and they’re not excempting any field or business areas. Some websites offering ‘paid to’ jobs look very sincere and real but they’re actually runned by scammers whose only motive is to get easy money in the expense of your hard-earned money. But just in case you are already very much convinced by those sites but have not yet placed in any money, this is a good time for you to think about it again. Well, might as well think a dozen times more before you finally decide as to whether you will be joining a program or not. Remember the golden rule: ‘Only invest an amount that you are willing to lose.’

Lastly, it would also help you a lot if you are going to perform your homework first before joining any online program or in simple words, do some research first to make sure that you are really getting in the right program. Reading forums or online discussions will be a good way to get real information on the programs that you intend to join. Again, Only invest an amount that you are willing to lose.’ at least, if you get scammed, it wouldn’t hurt you that much. lol

Mighty Symbian OS S60

April 24, 2008

Developing an application based on the Symbian OS platform has become a big hit among mobile phone application programmers especially among games developers. Obviously, Symbian games are far better than Java based games, not only in terms of the graphic interfaces but also with the effects and controls flexibility. Symbian OS which was first launched in 2001 Nokia phone 9210 model, has indeed gone far as more and more software companies are eyeing for the growing Symbian market although the software are not directly acquired by the phone manufacturing companies, the market is still big enough to sustain the companies developing the software.

As previously mentioned in my last blog entry, Nokia has already announced the release of their own version of the Iphone which will become the first ever touch screen phone to carry the Symbian OS S60. Definitely a thing to watch especially for those who smart phone enthusiasts.

Nokia’s New Touch Screen Phone

April 20, 2008

Nokia  has just announced that it will be launching its own version of the popular Iphone. Nokia did it during the Nokia’s GoPlay event as part of ther response to the touch screen phones battle among phone manufacturers. LG, Motorola and Samsung already released their own touch screen phones in the market.

The said Nokia phone will be due for release by next year. Once it is out, Nokia will be the first one to market a touch screen phone that is based on the symbian OS S60 platform. It should become a great edge for the company to compete with the leading Mac’s Iphone brand. Nokia currently holds more than 50% of the entire mobile phone market globally. Aside from its Symbian OS, the upcoming Nokia phone will also include a strong wifi connectivity among its features. It will surely revolutionize the way people use their hand phones in the future. Now, how about we watch out to that.

Smart Bro Disconnection

After 3 months of not paying my internet service provider Smart Bro, they finally disconnected me from their service. Too bad, I cannot use my desktop pc now like when I still have my internet connection. Well, I still use it though every time I use AutoCad or whenever I watch TV. I am now using my roomates pc to get access on the internet. Good for him, his ISP did not cut off his internet even if he hasn’t paid it for almost a year now.

Now, everytime I would surf the net, the all the sites are redirected to Smart Bro’s portal site. I have been reading forums regarding hacks  that would allow one to bypass the ISP portal page. I also have tried them all to my pc but none of them worked. I guess, those people who posted those hacks are hoax hackers. They only did it to create a name among other users.

By the way, Smart Bro is using Motorola’s Canopy Antenna to transmit access from their substation to their  subscribers. I hope somebody can find a way to bypass the portal page of Smart Bro. lol Bad cheetah…..

Downloading File through Torrents

Probably many still haven’t heard about torrents or could be that you’ve already heard about them but are still puzzled with what torrents really are. A torrent in other words is simply (get meaning from Wikipedia). Downloading files through a torrent has so many advantages although there are also a number of not-so-good stuffs about it. One big advantage is that almost all types of files are available for download through a torrent, be it a movie file, mp3, avi, ppt, xls, or other formats, just name them they’re all there. Personally, I use torrents to download new movies like those that are about to be shown in the movie houses or those that are still being shown. I also use it when downloading softwares.  Pretty cool, yeah?

To download your files through torrents, you would need to install a torrent client first. There are plenty of torrent clients that are ready for download and among them are utorrent, and azureus. I’ve tried using both and I could say  that  they both will do. Now, it’s up to you to pick the right torrent client for you.
