November 22, 2008

People engaged in their daily routines at home and in their work places without almost minding that some things that they are currently using today aren’t available a decade ago. Just like the personal computers, before only a few nerds have them until computers became commercially available and now it’s almost like a need for most people in urban cities and metropolitans. Computers play a great role in almost all fields from banking to production down to simple online teleconferences.

But ever since you’ve started using your PCs or notebooks, were your for once conscious about the processes running in your computers aside from those application windows that are visible on your screens? Do you know that there are more programs running in your computer that are not visible or those termed as “background processes” just like the msmpeng.exe process. It is responsible for preventing and removing spyware infections from your computers.

Well, I bet only a few care to at least learn about the background processes in their computers. But if you only happened to hear about those background processes just today and if you are interested to learn more, you can visit http://application-error.net. Learning about computer stuffs is actually fun and through your leanings, you can then better take care of your computers both externally and internally.

Search Images by Color

November 11, 2008

To keep my desktop background from getting boring, I try to change it every week. I usually try to search for a picture that would match my mood or the occasion. That’s why I got so excited when I found this site that not only gives you beautiful image results but also lets you have fun with it.

Picitup is a visual image search engine that let’s you play around by combining words and colors in your searches. Aside from its color based search function, what I also love about this site is its visual filters. You can quicken your search for that exact picture you wanted by using categories like faces, landscape or products. It’s fast and great image results, too.

Defragmenting Your PC

November 8, 2008

Aside from making sure that you have updated antivirus software, there are also other ways to care for your PC. One of these is regular defragmentation. Whenever you use your computer to say creating and saving a file, downloading and file installations, or just browsing websites, your PC automatically saves the data in bits or fragments. It does this every time. Eventually your hardware would have accumulated quite a number of these file fragments all throughout your hardware. This can in turn cause your PC to slow down considerably.

Defragmentation simply means putting all these save file fragments back together into one common file or program. Thus it makes your computer load faster by having shorter file access time. It also contributes to more efficient data storage.

Most computers have their own built-in defragmenting tool as part of its system tools. It’s pretty easy to manage. Just click on the Start button > Go to My Computer > Right click on (C:) > Choose Properties > Click on Tools > Click the Defragmentation option. That’s it.

Take note also that defragmenting can take from a few minutes to even a few hours. From experience, the first one usually takes the longest. It’s normal so don’t worry. You can also schedule your computer to run a defragmentation regularly. You can choose the time and date. For the average user, once a month is good enough.

Check Who Called You

November 6, 2008

Lately I have this habit of not answering phone calls I received that only shows the number. Well, there’s a reason to that. I’ve been receiving a number of calls lately from strangers telling me that this certain friend of mine referred me to them about a possible business plan. Or if not that, it would be persistent agents trying to sell their products.

That’s why I’d rather not answer this kind of calls. This is a good plan as long as the person on the other line is indeed a stranger. But I also worry that I may be missing on an important call. So the other side to this is that I sometimes ended up calling the number right back. That is, before I discovered reverse number lookups.

You have to praise technology as simple and as efficient as this. With a Canada phone number reverse, you’ll get information on any phone number in just a matter of seconds! It doesn’t matter if it’s a cell phone number, blocked, or unlisted number. Information like owner’s name and address even phone carrier and line type is guaranteed. One feature that I particularly like is the ability of this service to locate even old, outdated numbers. Wondering how long lost friends are doing nowadays? Easily locate them through reverse number lookups.

Your Personal ATM Right in Your House

November 5, 2008

I was browsing the net when I came across this cool gadget. It’s called the ATM Money Bank. Apparently, this invention is not quite new. Results on further searches revealed that this toy has been around since 2006! But I only discovered it a few minutes ago. Tsk.

The ATM Bank takes on the piggy bank concept but this time with some modern electronic modifications. This cash machine for one runs on AA batteries. And just like a proper ATM, you also have your own card complete with a 4-digit secret code for access. It can tell you how much money you have deposited and withdrawn. It can accept both coin and paper bill deposits.

Now although in the online stores I’ve checked, this has been listed mainly under the “for kids” I sure wouldn’t mind owning one!
